Enjoy a sportive and active summer in Hilpoltstein, the castle town at the Rothsee Lake

Hilpoltstein, Germany — Many wonderful bike tours with or without an e-bike are attracting visitors to the Franconian La and especially to Rothsee Lake. Take the circular trail along the lakeshore or take a tour following “Gredl,” the old train route that connected Hilpoltstein and Greding and has been turned into a beautiful bike trail.

An e-bike loading station is located in the center of Hilpoltstein’s market square. Here, e-bikers can load their bikes while they eat lunch or take a coffee break in the historic old town.

Since 2016, Hilpoltstein offers the Star Bike Trail Map (Sternenradwegekarte), a biking map featuring  21 tours around Hilpoltstein. So if you vacation in Hilpoltstein, you can start on a new , beautiful bike tour every day. Sights, restaurants, insider tips and information about public transportation are included. GPS tracks can be downloaded for every tour.

Nearby Rothsee Lake is always an attractive destination for vacationers. Whether you hike or bike around the lake, you are relaxing directly at the lake and get to enjoy this nature preserve with its distinctive features. Three restaurants directly at the lake invite visitors to take a break. In the summer, you can discover the lake by pedal boat, sail boat, or with a stand-up paddle.

Besides engaging in sports activities, it is also worth your while to take one of the many historic tours, such as the night watchman tour with Gottfried Gruber. At nightfall, he starts his tours around town, singing his well-known song. Or visit the princely residence built in 1619 by Count Palatine Johann Friedrich.
